4th & 5th Grades: WEBELOS

WEBELOS is a two-year rank, but boys are free to join as 5th graders, even if they’ve never been Scouts before.

Over the course of two years, WEBELOS Scouts complete two sets of required Adventures, along with two electives from the WEBELOS Elective Adventure List.

In year one, the Scout continues advancing his learning in many of the same areas he begins working on at lower ranks. In year two, the Scout begins to learn about Scouts BSA, earns the Arrow of Light award, and transitions, or “crosses over” to Scouts BSA, if the Scout wishes to continue the journey toward the prestigious Eagle Scout and Life Scout distinctions.

While a Scout is only required to complete two of these, many WEBELOS do as many as they wish, to earn extra pins for their WEBELOS Colors award display ribbon.

When WEBELOS complete Adventures, they earn awards. Each award takes the form of a pin that WEBELOS scouts can add to their uniform award ribbon (called WEBELOS Colors) and wear to display their progress. Additionally, once first year requirements have been met, second year WEBELOS Scouts are able to wear the Scouts BSA tan uniform shirt, a sign of the beginning of their transition to Scouts BSA.

WEBELOS Den Leaders work closely with parents of WEBELOS to ensure Adventures and other activities are planned from the outset of the Scout’s journey and develop a pathway for achieving each WEBELOS Scout’s individual Scouting goals.
